Lincoln Square Bridges

Elegant, energy-efficient sky bridges

Dramatic pedestrian skybridges encourages flow between buildings

In the center of downtown Bellevue, Washington lies Lincoln Square. This opulent development sprawls two city blocks and contains retail, hotel, condominium, office, restaurant, and entertainment spaces. Such a large, multipurpose site requires elegant wayfinding features—to fill this need, we designed the lighting for two pedestrian sky bridges to connect both sections of Lincoln Square.

For each bridge, the concept was to create a sense of amazement using a feature lighting element so that each skybridge would draw interest and attention when viewed from different vantage points, including the street below. For the first bridge, a special backlit translucent product was sandwiched to a laser-cut metal screen and a flexible LED panel to make it glow. The second bridge connects pedestrians from a high-end hotel tower to the development’s existing tower. A combination of linear cove lights and LED downlights reinforce wayfinding.

These accessible bridges work for Northwest rainy days and well as sunny days, keeping pedestrians away from traffic and propelling visitors from one building to the next.

Lighting is storytelling. It’s the voice of the architecture, the emotion of the environment. Its controls are the plot that activates the space.
