Loma Linda University Health - Dennis and Carol Troesch Medical Campus

Loma Linda University was seeking a team of professionals to bring excellence in electrical design, programming, and technology for their medical center expansion. The project included an expansion and renovations, requiring technology, audiovisual, security, acoustics, and electrical design.

Our team provided engineering design and construction administration support, contributing planning expertise, support, and insight to several contractors and integrators. The modified Design Assist project delivery format was a challenge—notably, seismic forces on the high-rise included deflecting and dampening, three inches of inner story drift, and movement of the base isolated building around the adjacent fixed earth. Bus duct systems are not typically designed to withstand these constraints, but we worked with the electrical subcontractor and client to create a first of its kind solution for healthcare construction in California. The system was chosen to provide flexibility to the infrastructure, which has a small footprint required for the building’s center core design.

In the end, Loma Linda has new services including a university hospital, children’s hospital, a 10MW emergency generator plant, expanded central energy plant, support services, and more. Our early involvement helped partners make sound decisions to ultimately reduce cost and improve operational performance.
