We expanded donor facilities at the Blood Center to support an increased capacity for donations
The eligible blood donor population at Fort Benning was the second largest in the army inventory, making it an ideal location to build the new LTC Eugene R. Sullivan Memorial Blood Donor Center. The mission behind it all? To create a modern structure for the collection and production of whole blood from the Department of Defense and affiliated volunteer donors, providing blood products to peace and wartime military medical treatment facilities.
The center features an open design, with the phlebotomy equipment placed in the center, and the processing and shipping functionally located around the perimeter. This layout eliminates interior circulation corridors, allowing our team to increase the size of the lab and testing storage space. The Center was designed to accommodate future expansions as well, allowing for minimal demolition as more blood donor stations and processing labs are added.
The façade of masonry and cast stone accents, creates an impression of permanence and durability. The professional, contemporary structure was built with sustainability in mind, and is a welcome part of the Fort Benning community.
