Our team installed a rooftop respite garden at the St. Francis Medical Center in Illinois

The OSF St. Francis Medical Center has a special place in the hearts of Lynn and Jerry Flaherty. So much so, that they generously donated $500,000 to plan and design a rooftop respite garden for hospital patients and family members. The Flaherty’s understanding of hospital environments (and the atmosphere and amenities that accompany them) resulted in the couple conceiving a skyline sanctuary that would provide access to fresh air, natural light, respite, and hope.

The St. Francis Medical Center engaged us to make this dream a reality. Our team incorporated a winding wooden trail that transitions into a stone path leading towards a visual ‘meadow’. Three large awnings create tree-like shade for guests, and separate sections provide space for privacy or group support.

The Lynn & Jerry Flaherty Garden at OSF is a dream come true. The Flaherty’s are honored to have created a space for healing, and patients are thankful for a sanctuary that renews and refreshes the spirit.
