In McKinney ISD’s new stadium project, the larger community finds new common ground to create stronger connections
Serving three high schools within the McKinney Independent School District, the New Stadium brings together the larger community each week as up to 12,000 fans pour into the state-of-the-art bowl facility. The school district's football teams, soccer teams, and marching bands will all make the new stadium their home, and the modern facility offers plenty of space for large community gatherings, banquets, class reunions, and more. A two-level pressbox and 26,000 SF fieldhouse round out our design.
In order to reinforce the bowl concept, the facility's program is wrapped around the seating, with seating split into two sections. This creates a lower bowl, embedded into the landscape, and a continuous concourse that allows for uninterrupted field connections.
The interior design approach focuses on the use of neutral colors, allowing the facility to support the district's multiple schools. This strategy allows the new stadium to quickly feel like the home field for each team, community member, and alumnus for McKinney ISD.
