We provided construction planning and commissioning services to improve passenger comfort and upgrade airport infrastructure
Passengers at Miami International Airport (MIA) only see a fraction of the infrastructure that makes up an airport. Behind the scenes, there’s border inspection facilities and baggage handling systems and more. And behind those are all the mechanical systems that keep the buildings, and the airport, operating, safe, and secure.
When Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) South and Central Terminals of Miami International Airport (MIA) required modifications to terminal H, Custom Border Inspection Service Building, and the baggage handling system to remain sustainable and within regulation, we were excited to provide fundamental commissioning services for the expansion and improvement project at the airport. Our services included commissioning of mechanical, plumbing, elevator, and fire protection, as well as other related systems for building certifications.
Airports are complex, as is maintaining them while operations continue. Among our many tasks were, master plan development, development and verification of pre-functional checklists, development and execution of functional performance tests, construction phase site visits, issues log tracking, and a final commissioning report. The completed project will also see consolidation of TSA checkpoints into a new 16-lane configuration, additional seating and concession spaces, and a business lounge. In total, more than 164,000 square feet of space will be remodeled.
