Contributing to Jackson Square’s ongoing revitalization
When the Boston Housing Authority needed to redevelop the antiquated Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, they turned to our team to create the master plan. Over the next decade, residents will see their public housing transformed into new, modern apartment homes for people with a range of incomes.
Our master plan adds new complete streets, with bike and pedestrian accommodations, and replaces seven deteriorated apartment buildings and the Anna Mae Cole Community Center. Within ten years, this five-phase project will create 673 homes, preserving 253 affordable units for current residents and creating approximately 420 new homes for low and moderate-income families. Our master plan includes a new, centrally located Anna Mae Cole Community Center which will serve as a resource for community use. The center will provide flexible programming space to meet diverse resident needs, including educational workshops and classes.
Our master plan also included enhanced green space through the creation of a community plaza with pedestrian paths, seating areas, improved landscaping, vegetable gardens, and an outdoor courtyard at both buildings. Ultimately, this project will add hundreds of new affordable housing opportunities to the Jackson Square neighborhood, giving families a modern place to learn, grow, and play.
