Minot Riverfront Downtown and Neighborhood Plans

Revitalizing and enhancing the community

Six neighborhoods and a downtown area had to be planned

After devastating floods in 2011 left many neighborhoods in the City of Minot with significant damage, the community wanted to develop a neighborhood and downtown plan that would guide future development and reinvigorate the community vision. Our job? Outline action steps for implementation and provide a decision-making framework regarding investments in public and private initiatives.

The downtown and neighborhood plans address many issues including land use, infrastructure, stormwater, economic development, parking, housing, parks, and trails. Building on the citywide comprehensive plan, our teams conducted planning studies for the downtown area and flood-affected neighborhoods and worked closely with City staff to understand the physical impacts and neighborhood issues. We also conducted individualized meetings with stakeholders in each of the six neighborhoods, interviewed key property and business owners, and developed design workshops and open houses to involve the local community.

Now, the City of Minot has neighborhood-based and downtown implementation and action plans that will help them develop housing, transportation, and greenways. The revitalized downtown will emphasize housing, redevelopment, streetscape improvements, and will provide enhanced connections to the river, parks, and other city destinations.
