Transforming a 200,000-square-foot work space with a limited budget
Founded in Boston in 1933, Mintz Levin is today a prestigious national firm with 500 attorneys working in eight offices across the country and in London. Mintz Levin first engaged Stantec in 1994 to design their offices at One Financial, a prominent tower in Boston’s Financial District. By 2013, some areas of the office showed wear, were visually disconnected, and no longer supported the current state of legal practice, so Mintz Levin again enlisted our designers to complete a significant transformation of the 200,000 square foot space on a tight budget of just $50/square foot.
The design concept expresses Mintz Levin’s culture and employees: bright, energetic, innovative, yet unpretentious and accessible. Most design dollars were directed at revitalizing common spaces, from reimagining the expansive reception area into zones for informal collaboration to creating a welcoming new lunch room. A quiet material palette unifies disparate spaces and serves as a backdrop to sculptural furniture in hues of Mintz Levin’s signature blue and sunny yellow. The resulting spaces stretch the tight design budget and enhance the firm’s culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
