Mobile County Parks Initiative

Looking to provide improved public access to parks—with a focus on increasing waterway access in underserved communities—Mobile County Commission created the Parks Initiative. Our team was there to help make it happen.

Serving as prime consultant, we’ve received task orders for initial feasibility studies and conceptual design phases for three separate sites: Africatown State Park (Shelton Beach Landing), Lewis Landing, and Juanita Crenshaw Park. Our services have included initial site assessments, wetlands jurisdictional determinations, and shoreline stabilization assessments. We also performed cultural and archaeological resources assessments, topographic and boundary surveys, and flood plain compliance assessments.

The Lewis Landing site has proceeded and United States Army Corps of Engineers permits have been received. As soon as an upcoming Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act grant is received by the County, we’ll provide additional services during the bid support, construction support, and oversight phases. A constructed wetland stormwater detention area was also included in the site design which will reduce potential impacts to local water quality and provide improvements to habitat at the site.

When complete, the Lewis Landing site will increase public access to the lower reach of Threemile Creek, improving access to recreational activities for the local community
