Re-establishing a world-class industrial hygiene program
When the largest refinery in the United States was looking to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control their workplace conditions to avoid any worker injuries or illnesses, our team was there to help. Our goal? To re-establish a world-class industrial hygiene program.
Our ChemRisk team completed a four-step process, beginning with a review of existing industrial hygiene and environmental, health and safety, data, policies, and procedures. We developed a qualitative exposure assessment system and implemented this system at the refinery. During implementation, we interviewed over 150 employees and performed a detailed plant walkthrough to identify potential chemical exposures specific to each major task performed at each refinery unit. Lastly, we created customized exposure communication handouts for each unit that explained potential exposures and associated risks in an understandable way.
Our team established a world-class industrial hygiene program that helped to promote the safety and wellbeing of all staff at the refinery. In addition, we provided on-site support to guarantee proper program implementation.
