Parker Water - Water Resources Centralization

The Parker Water and Sanitation District (PWSD) has provided water services to a growing Colorado population in Parker since 1962. Looking to deliver long-term water security and access to renewable resources for the community, PWSD joined the Water, Infrastructure and Supply Efficiency, or WISE Project, in 2009—which supplies millions of gallons of potable water every year. To distribute this water, PWSD needed to completely restructure their groundwater disinfection and conveyance systems. They also needed to expand their finished water conveyance system. To make this happen, PWSD engaged us to help.

We partnered with the Overland Construction Company of Denver to provide engineering design services to PWSD and the owner’s engineer. The project included the notable construction of the Canyons pump station, a potable water booster pump station capable of pumping 17.2 million gallons (65.1 million litres) per day. Our design also included a 5-mile (8-kilometre) welded steel pipeline to transport finished water to neighboring communities. Additionally, we made modifications to seven existing groundwater well sites—we designed 9 miles (14.5 kilometres) of well collection pipelines to convey untreated groundwater to a new water treatment plant, and a 100,000-gallon (379,000 litre) pre-stressed concrete raw water reservoir. We conducted early coordination and engagement with property owners to secure easements and reduce property acquisition impacts on independent deadlines.

With the new treatment and conveyance systems in place, PWSD can provide the community they serve with access to a more resilient and improved supply of potable water.
