Penn Medicine wanted to expand their outpatient oncology services within an existing office building in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Their goal was to create a comprehensive cancer care destination that prioritizes patient experience, operational efficiency, and wellness-focused design. Penn Medicine engaged us to help bring their vision to life. Delivered under an accelerated design-build schedule, the project required close collaboration among Penn Medicine, the design team, and construction partners to meet an aggressive opening date while maintaining quality and performance goals.
We focused our planning approach around providing intuitive wayfinding, care team visibility, and streamlined operations. This included clearly identifiable suites, direct sightlines between reception, waiting, and treatment areas, and strategically located care stations improve both patient navigation and provider efficiency.
Our team also embraced wellness architecture principles to create a calming, restorative environment. Access to natural light and exterior views helps connect patients to changing seasonal conditions, while warm, earth-toned finishes, acoustic flooring, and soothing color palettes reduce stress and promote comfort. Patient amenities, such as individual television controls, blanket warmers, and convenient nourishment stations, enhance choice and dignity throughout treatment.
Additionally, the project included a hematology-oncology suite with 16 exam rooms and support spaces as well as an oncology and pharmacy suite featuring 23 open infusion bays, 2 private infusion rooms, and a pharmacy designed for hazardous and non-hazardous medication preparation.
Through this expansion, Penn Medicine furthers their commitment to delivering advanced cancer care in an environment designed to foster healing, comfort, and well-being.
