Providing innovative solutions for a non-traditional proton therapy center in Tennessee
Located on the new cancer care campus of the East Tennessee Healthcare Center, the 87,000 square foot
Provision Center for Proton Therapy presented our client with a tight building footprint. That meant finding the space for the traditional proton therapy center design, a maze of corridors lined with heavy concrete walls, would be virtually impossible.
Our design team met this challenge with the use of innovative shielded sliding doors. The first project to use this solution, the Provision Center provides direct access to treatment rooms, giving patients a more pleasant experience within a much smaller corridor.
Additionally, the equipment for the treatment rooms was manufactured by multiple vendors, complicating the design process. One vendor provided the first three rooms, but the owner wanted to develop their own compact gantry for the other two rooms, using a smaller footprint and making them more affordable.
