Designed to achieve LEED Silver

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) needed a new facility to house their modern communications equipment and provide direct operational launch support. The new facility also had to support squadron administration, maintenance, and other operations functions. Our job was design services for the single-story building and other site improvements.

The new facility, designed to house 65 personnel, is divided into two areas. The administrative area includes offices, work stations, a conference room, and a communications security vault. The high bay area houses the communication rack rooms and their support areas. To comply with the Cape Canaveral AFS Facilities Excellence Plan, the facility’s architecture is compatible with other community buildings using similar form, style, materials, and details—it’s also debris proofed in case of rocket malfunction.

The additional site improvements included upgrading exterior communications cables, chilled water lines, and storm water and electrical utility systems. The team also provided full Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) design, in accordance with ATFP criteria and standards, as well as complete interior design services.

Designed to withstand a category 3 hurricane, this new communications facility will bring all of the servers for the East Coast Test Range together in one modern building to program and maintain, thus allowing for a much more efficient and secure operation.
