Urban venue to be preeminent regional skatepark in Western New York, suitable for special events and competitions
Rochester NY will soon lose its distinction as the only major US city without a skatepark. In Fall 2019, wheels will roll, lift, spin, and land on a signature downtown skatepark beneath the city’s iconic Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge.
Alongside Friends of Roc City Skatepark, an enthusiastic local skate board group, and the City of Rochester, Stantec prepared a feasibility study, provided preliminary planning, and collaborated on a successful fund-raising campaign.
Our team is now serving as skatepark landscape architect and engineer for this riverside venue.
With the goal to raise the bar on custom concrete skate park design, the park features a variety of street and transition type terrain for all ages and skills. The 38,000-sq-ft venue will provide skate boarders, BMX riders, and in-line skaters a unique recreational asset.
The Roc City Skatepark is the first of 13 downtown revitalization projects under the city’s ROC the Riverway initiative. This program will consolidate more than two dozen transformative projects along the Genesee River.
