Rocky Pen Run Reservoir

Water—we all need it; but not at the loss of important ecosystems. We’ve helped our client make sure that their objective (to construct a 503-acre, 5.5 billion gallon reservoir) was met and that the surrounding community’s environment was not adversely impacted. This reservoir was designed with over 9 miles of stream and 4 acres of wetland resources in mind.

As part of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality permit conditions, Stafford County needed to develop a comprehensive riverine mitigation plan. For help, the County selected us to develop and implement the mitigation plan keeping the reservoir on schedule, environment in the forefront, and remaining in compliance with the todays’ complex regulations.

We completed a comprehensive watershed field assessment in support of the plan. We also identified and designed multiple Best Management Practices that provided water quality and quantity benefits in the sensitive headwaters of tributary streams. And, our fish blockage removal design will open nearly 15 miles of anadromous fish habitat.
