Round Hill Main Street Improvement Locally Administered Project (LAP)

Solving critical drainage issues

  • Round Hill, Virginia

    Round Hill, Virginia

Community engagement, conscientious design, and close partnerships all contributed to this successful improvement endeavor.

When the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) partnered with the Town of Round Hill to deliver main street improvements as a locally administered project (LAP), they brought us in to coordinate the design and solve critical drainage issues. One major goal? To preserve the historic features and landscaping of Main Street while accomplishing the ADA-compliant and safety engineering aspects of the project.

We worked with individual landowners to coordinate and obtain approvals for improvements, and we developed unique, project-specific, two-page visual handouts for each lot. These handouts were used by the Town in public meetings with citizens and property owners affected by the project. The visuals were so well-received that Loudoun County has adopted this format for its handouts for an adjacent project.

Construction of the Main Street improvements will be combined with Loudoun County’s East Loudon Street project. This unique setup required extensive coordination with the Town of Round Hill, Loudoun County, East Loudoun Street Engineer, and VDOT for bid document preparation and construction coordination.
