Creating opportunities for students to congregate, study, and collaborate at Sam Houston State University

It’s got to be a home. A place that offers a strong sense of community, a place where students feel connected to the University—comfortable. Eager to live on campus. It’s what a residential hall needs to be. Sam Houston State University’s new South Residential Complex will be a signature building, something that acts as a gateway to the campus and draws students together.

The South Residential Complex won’t be just a space for its residents. On the ground floor, a large community space will create opportunities for all Sam Houston students to congregate, study, and collaborate. A sloped courtyard (three quarters the size of a football field) offers outside space, and taking advantage of the grade, we’ll include separated, multi-use seating. So students can work together or independently.

There’ll be two different unit types: single-room suites and double-room suites. Communities of around 40 students will share a social lounge, community kitchen, and study rooms. Guest bathrooms are located right by those study rooms on each floor. A faculty apartment for in-residences will feature a private exterior terrace on the second level.
