SE Loop – Funding and Design
Facing increased traffic—especially from oil and gas trucks— Eddy County needed relief routes around Carlsbad. Our team was there to help.
Our job? Securing funding for the $25 million project to allow the project to be completed in phases. We also realigned the Old Refinery Road intersection with US 62/180, added turning lanes, and constructed 0.6 miles (1 kilometre) of new roadway. Following that, we completed designs for NM 200 improvements and signalization which will be carried out by the New Mexico Department of Transportation
Our team had the opportunity to design the remaining two phases of the project, widening Old Refinery Road to two 12-foot lanes (3.7-metre) with 8-foot (2.4-metre) shoulders and realigning it to minimize property impacts. By using process place and compact sections, we saved over $5 million in construction costs. We managed extensive drainage improvements, utility adjustments, and right-of-way acquisitions, obtaining necessary certifications and environmental assessments.
The project successfully added a new roadway section with widened lanes and shoulders, improved drainage, and a new intersection, enhancing traffic flow and safety.
