Working within a unique planning framework, a new expanded multiuse trail offers more ways to get around

In the region of Lake Tahoe, what could be a better way to get to work, school, shopping, or recreation than by multi-use trail? The South Tahoe Greenway is an approximately 7.5 mile multi-use trail from Myers, California, to Stateline, Nevada in South Lake Tahoe. It is part of a larger trail providing the east-west backbone of a trail network in the core area of South Lake Tahoe.

In the planning for over a decade, the client sought our design and project management expertise to move the project across the finish line. Working within the client’s framework, we developed the plan in stages from 50 per cent, to 75 per cent, then 90 per cent, and finally, to construction-ready plans. Our initial task was to develop an overall 50 per cent design from the conceptual design, which included alignment adjustments based on environmental document comments. Then, we accelerated the design process through field surveying to 75 percent, and on to final designs in approximately four months.

In the field, we provided construction oversight assistance and additional services, including construction planning, trail alignment, field surveying, and permitting/land authorization assistance. With completion of the trail, residents will have more options for non-vehicle travel to more destinations, all in one of the most scenic places in the US.
