St. Charles High School

Every field wants to lead the charge in new technology, new ideas, new frontiers. For a high school, that could be an innovative design for classrooms. It could be technology integration. For Charles County Public Schools, their new facility was a big first step for public education.

The goal was to create a new, advanced high school for grades nine to twelve. St. Charles High School is the result. This STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) high school includes a state-of-the-art, multi-use dome theatre. It’s got digital surround sound and high resolution graphics. It’s the first time—ever—that this application of laser projection and dome theatre has been installed in a U.S. public school.

The dome seats up to 150 students and uses advanced computer graphics technology to generate impressive full-dome images. It’s a bold new type of technology integration for education, and it’s been described by state officials as “nothing short of revolutionary” and as “a bold vision for public education.”
