State Highway 288 Toll Lanes

Established in the mid-1800’s, the still-booming metropolis of Houston, Texas is now the fourth largest American city with a population of nearly 7 million people. The city required enhancements to its road infrastructure, and we were brought on to design the State Highway 288 Toll Lanes project. The development will do more than accommodate thousands of commuters—it will provide additional capacity for hurricane evacuations and promote growth within the southern States.

Serving as the lead designer, the $850 million project consists of the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of 10.3 miles of roadway. We helped to redefine all general-purpose lanes, four tolled lanes, and eight direct connectors at the Beltway 8 Interchange. We also provided interchange work at IH 610, direct connectors to Holcombe Boulevard near the Texas Medical Center, and future general purpose lanes in each direction on State Highway 288.

Our scope included the survey, highway, roadway, and bridge designs, as well as drainage oversight, traffic control plans, traffic engineering, electrical designs, and roadway lighting designs. We also provided the planning, specifications, and post-design services.
