The Nappi Wellness Institute represents a new type of ambulatory care facility

We were engaged by the State University of New York (SUNY) to design a new ambulatory care center for the Syracuse community. The goal? To provide patients with a single “one-stop-shop” where they can receive most of their healthcare needs—a facility with primary care, specialty clinics, and community wellness under one roof.

Embracing a new model of integrated care, the SUNY Upstate University Hospital Nappi Wellness Institute combines family medicine, pediatric care, global health services, behavioral health, and other specialty clinics under a single roof. The facility will attend to the whole person, recognizing individual behavior and social determinants of health are the main influence of health and well-being.

The Center will provide more than 240 exam and consultation rooms for primary care and specialty care for chronic diseases, as well as lab and radiology services, urgent care, an infusion center, dental services, a geriatrics unit, clinic embedded behavioral health services, global health center, immune health services, and the Joslin Diabetes Center. The flexible clinical layout fosters interdisciplinary engagement and interaction allowing the providers to work effectively and efficiently thereby promoting a better outcome for every patient.

The result is a “best-in-class” facility that will foster greater provider collaboration and service integration, with the aim of enhancing the quality of care, improving patient and staff satisfaction, and positively impacting the cost of care.
