A place that’s safe and secure, but also a home where students can feel like they belong

Students living away from home want an exciting residence—something fun, with great amenities. A place that’s safe and secure, but also a home where they belong.

When Texas State University decided to address increased demand for student housing, the West Campus Residence Hall was thought up. It would be a facility that not only housed the students, but also served education and recreation.

The three-building, 578-bed complex was designed on a tight site. Two six-story buildings house the residence halls, and the third—a two-story community building—houses academic support and student activity spaces. Each residence hall has a social lounge with kitchenette, a study room, and informal spaces on each floor.

Inside the community building, there’s a multi-purpose room, seminar rooms, and study rooms. An art lab study space and a number of open, informal social spaces round out the facility. On the outside, there are three courtyards for study. With sand volleyball and barbecue pits, the courtyards deliver a mix of recreation, social spaces, and quiet areas.

This complex blends visually with the context of the campus, reflects the strength and unique character of Texas State University, and helps the students feel at home.
