The Colony Comprehensive Plan

Can a community be too successful? The Colony, Texas, is a community of about 44,500 residents nestled by Lake Lewisville. In recent decades, it has seen rapid growth and is now approaching build-out. Facing diminishing available lands, The Colony looked to alternatives to support the demand for more housing and commercial space in the popular community. City leadership wanted to maintain The Colony’s small, hometown character while building on its reputation as “The City by the Lake.”

We worked with The Colony’s Technical Advisory Committee comprised of Council representatives, Planning & Zoning Commission representatives, citizens, and key City department representatives, to develop a draft Comprehensive Plan that describes a clear land development and mobility vision based on community-driven identification of key assets/strengths, weaknesses/challenges, and opportunities. The plan puts a spotlight on areas for redevelopment and infill development, articulates a strategic implementation program to drive a series of prioritized actions, and tracks progress towards desired outcomes.

With projections indicating The Colony’s population could grow by as much as 41.8 per cent by 2030, the Comprehensive Plan will help maintain the high-quality lifestyle that has attracted so many to the community.
