The Woodlands Cancer Center is one of three regional care centers delivering MD Anderson oncology services to Houston’s growing suburban population. Centralized into a three-story, freestanding, structure, it offers convenient access to cancer care in one location.
MD Anderson engaged our team to develop a consistent patient and provider experience and brand identity flexible enough to adapt to other centers. We worked with key parties to analyze current practices. We then considered ways to improve clinical operations through the use of technology to optimize workflow, the incorporation of adaptable and flexible spaces, and the creation of areas that enhance collaboration and communication.
Our team mapped clinical workflows to help reduce provider walking and increase time spent at the patient’s side. We replaced traditional workplace solutions with work areas that factor in technology, space utilization, and privacy needs that varied depending on adjacency to clinical work. Breaking down traditional work silos and improving workflows created more efficient processes and improved provider experience.
At four times the size of its previous location, The Woodlands Cancer Center elevates the patient experience. It houses infusion therapy, laboratory and pharmacy services, rehabilitation, pain management, nutrition counseling, social work support, and genetic counseling. A women’s imaging center offers mammography, ultrasound, and other technologies for screening and diagnosis, all in a spa-like environment.
Bathed in natural light, framed by warm wood accents, and enriched with colorful abstract art, the center fosters comfort and healing. Here, patients and families collaborate closely with specialists to develop personalized, multidisciplinary treatment plans.
