TVA Shawnee SCR and Ammonia Tank Farm

Under a demanding delivery schedule set out by the Tennessee Valley Authority, Babcock Power needed to give the Shawnee power plant some needed upgrades. To help them meet their goal, our team provided structural engineering and design services for structural steel support of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR), associated duct work, skids, stair towers, platforms, and walkways and the ammonia tank structural steel access platforms.

The Shawnee plant has ten coal burning power plants, which are each rated at 150 MW. This project involved the installation of a new SCR system to units one and four, as well as the installation of a remote ammonia tank farm for both units. The equipment layouts of both SCR units are identical with the exception of the common ammonia tank farm, which was located beyond the plant’s existing switchyard.

Despite incomplete owner’s engineer and vendor information, our team worked together with Babcock and helped get the project completed right on schedule.
