TWA Hotel - JFK International Airport

MCR Investors engaged our team to provide LEED commissioning services for expansion of the Eero Saarinen’s 1960’s mid-century masterpiece, the TWA Hotel. After sitting vacant for 15 years, the reactivation of this international landmark included two new wings flanking the sides of the historic Flight Center.

As the only hotel at JFK Airport, the over 500,000 square foot complex offers 512 hotel rooms, a conference center, and five-star amenities. The hotel curtainwall is triple-glazed and consists of seven layers of glass for high energy efficiency and insulation against jet noise. An off-grid cogeneration plant produces all the power for the complex. The project is US Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Gold certified. Our LEED commissioning services included the fundamental and enhanced commissioning, developed a commissioning masterplan, integrated the commissioning delivery within the project, and implemented the building system verification and acceptance. We also developed and executed functional performance tests, witness site testing, provided site observation reports, manage deficiency log, and provided customer experience resolution assistance. To top it off, we completed the systems manual, warranty period review, commissioning report, and seasonal testing.

Now complete, travelers have direct access from the terminal to a hotel without ever having to leave the airport.
