A comprehensive transportation management plan for the new home of the New York Islanders

UBS Arena Transportation Management Plan

Located within the historic Belmont Park site, UBS Arena is an iconic venue and new home to the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders. We were engaged by Sterling Project Development to answer a critical question: how can UBS Arena get more than 17,000 fans in and out safely and efficiently while minimizing impacts to the local road network? Our team was there to help.

We developed the UBS Arena transportation management plan (TMP), a comprehensive document consisting of a demand management strategy, an operations plan, and a monitoring plan. Our work was guided by a central mission to keep things flowing so that the fan experience can be about the event itself. Leveraging our major events and venues mobility planning expertise, our work consisted of analyzing travel patterns to better understand where fans would be travelling from, traffic modeling to understand how they might get to the arena, and planning to optimize the movements of various modes once they arrived at the site.

Opened in 2021, UBS Arena has successfully hosted New York Islanders games and numerous events and concerts.
