With a mandate to add housing quickly and cost-effectively, UC Davis turned to Stantec’s team for a new way of doing business
Faced with a rapidly growing student body, UC Davis brought us and our public private partnership team in to plan, design, and engineer an ambitious student housing expansion. The project will include community space, recreational fields, and nine four-story apartment buildings.
Originally, West Village was planned for 1,875 beds, but our team, developer Michaels Organization, and general contractor CBG Building Company developed a plan to create substantially more residential units, with the first 1,000 beds by the start of the 2020 academic year.
In keeping with the ethos of UC Davis, the project will set new benchmarks in sustainability. Utilizing the 5.5 megawatt solar array located on UC Davis parking structures, the project is designed to be net zero. We chose specific landscaping for low water use and longevity, and we designed the entire campus to promote bike and pedestrian movement, a core part of the school’s culture.
Next up? We’ll also collaborate with the Michaels Organization on the Orchard Park apartment expansion at UC Davis, which will provide additional housing for graduates and families. Our job there will include interior design along with landscape architecture and site planning.
We're better together
