Valley of Champions Master Plan

The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce wanted to strengthen the region's growing network of sports and recreation venues. They reach out to our team to help create a master plan that would enhance the visitor experience, support active lifestyles, and drive long‑term economic growth.

The plan organized the area into connected pedestrian, bicycle, and kayak routes. These looped experiences give people the freedom to explore at their own pace while enjoying clear paths, natural landscapes, and places to rest and gather. Within the floodplain, we designed a mix of multiuse trails, single‑track paths, and skill‑based features. This variety allows visitors to choose the level of challenge and adventure that suits them.

A new city park at the southwest corner acts as a welcoming gateway. It offers traditional park amenities while reflecting the character and energy of the larger recreation area. The plan also called for improvements to the existing cyclocross course—expanding its capacity and positioning it as a regional draw for outdoor enthusiasts.

After the master plan was complete, we continued to support the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce by identifying funding opportunities and developing marketing materials that reinforced the community's vision and helped move the plan toward implementation.

Because the project spanned city, county, and private land, collaboration was essential from the start. The master plan brought partners together to amplify the value of the shared landscape and create a unified recreation destination for the region.
