Repairing leaking pipes to protect families from fires in Ohio
When pipes leak, they waste more than just water. Municipal coffers start to run dry. And for some communities, disruptions to the water supply threaten something even more precious: safety. In the Village of Albany, leaking pipes meant inadequate fire protection for families.
Faced with an aging distribution system and limited municipal funds, the Village hired Stantec to help devise a swift and forward-thinking solution. We analyzed the costs and potential flow impacts of repair versus replacement, determining that new construction would best protect Albany today and for years to come. We also secured funding from the Ohio Department of Development and the Ohio EPA’s Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance, helping the Village find the money it needed.
Soon Albany’s renovated supply system will bring water—and safety—to more than 500 customers in the rural community. It’ll plug a $35,000-per-year leak, allowing the Village of Albany to redirect that money into community growth.
