Warren Harding High School Replacement
When communities invest in new schools, they invest in their future. Redeveloping a brownfields site on the east side of Bridgeport began with replacing the Warren Harding High School with a new LEED Gold certified school that accommodates 1,150 students. As subconsultants to Antinozzi Associates, our team of civil engineers and landscape architects brought creativity to virtually every element of the project—keeping in mind design flexibility for future site redevelopment.
In support of LEED sustainability goals, we designed a large solar panel array powering the facilities. We also designed an extensive natural storm water management system, including rain gardens, bioretention, and underground infiltration practices. Work included site layout design, grading and drainage, permitting, hydraulic analysis, coordination with FEMA, and preparation of a conditional letter of map revision.
After extensive public outreach and coordination, the new school includes computer labs, virtual and traditional science labs, and cutting-edge sports facilities—a running track, synthetic turf football and baseball fields, a 900-seat grandstand, and concession and team room facilities for the community’s use and enjoyment. As an added benefit, the design included an outdoor amphitheater with a stage outside for civic activities—making the school an amenity for the entire community.
