A commitment to preserving the original beauty of a hall enriches the heart of Chicago’s financial district

Keeping in line with the original architecture was key for Wintrust’s renovation at the 231 South LaSalle Chicago location. To ensure harmony between the historic and the contemporary, our team designed appropriate workstations, offices, and a new staircase in the magnificent Grand Banking Hall.

The renovation celebrates the hall’s handsome classical architecture while supporting Wintrust’s presence in Chicago’s financial district. Grand Banking Hall serves as a community room for Wintrust, which opens its event space for local philanthropic organizations or partner organizations when they’re in need. Perimeter offices are aligned with a monumental colonnade to show off their verticality. Custom millwork on the reception and banking hall furniture is inspired by antique bank teller stations.

Updated lighting showcases the beauty of the preserved architecture, the grand mural, and details such as the sculptural capitals on the main columns. Thirteen immense antique chandeliers and the traditional Burnham Rooms were restored to complete the revival of this charismatic historic gem.

With these designs, we brought the ornate and beautiful details together as an integral part of Wintrust’s dynamic workplace—something they can be proud of.
