In times of drought and reduced soil moisture, vegetation reacts by retaining water. Then, that vegetation heats up, further increasing wildfire risk. We can use vegetation temperature as a surrogate measure for wildfire susceptibility.

When they were concerned about the wildfire threat on their line’s right\u002Dof\u002Dway, we used WildfireWatch to give them reliable and consistent vegetation temperature readings along the entirety of the line. We used historical TIR data to establish baseline conditions and compared to new TIR data to give Hetch Hetchy a full picture of their wildfire risk and susceptibility.",
