Spacious garage design allows travelers to park it and catch stress-free ride to airport

Logan Express Parking Garage

Driving to Boston’s Logan International Airport is a stressful experience for MetroWest communities. The Logan Express Parking Garage in Framingham provides travelers shuttle service, but the small facility needed to be revamped to meet the high demand.

Massport enlisted our team to provide fast-track design services for a new 1,100-space precast-concrete parking garage at the existing site. First, we reviewed site layouts, passenger convenience, and impacts to area traffic. Then, we developed concept layouts that optimized vehicle and passenger circulation. Ideal footprint for the small site and most efficient bay sizes were considered. The garage, terminal, and site layout were fine-tuned with efficiency and safety as top priorities.

Other features of the design include a 6,000-square-foot (560-square-metre) passenger terminal building, where passengers can be quickly and efficiently processed; two roof-level gas-fired snowmelters; and a custom architectural façade. In the end, we created a design that met the project’s aggressive schedule and that allows local travelers to park their cars and catch a stress-free ride to the airport.
