A specialist flora taxonomist, Alex has expertise in Acacia and Ericaceae. Formerly a research scientist at the Western Australian Herbarium (DBCA), he led key flora databases including FloraBase and the State of Western Australia’s Census of Vascular Plants. Since joining us as a principal taxonomist, he supports accurate species identification through field survey analysis, regulatory collaboration, and management of our herbarium collection of approximately 2,500 specimens.

Alex enjoys collaborating with our Flora team and environmental specialists while continuing to build knowledge of the state’s rich floral diversity. One of the most interesting projects he’s worked on involved long‑term Lofty Range flora surveys, which identified threatened species in a unique and previously under‑surveyed area of the Pilbara.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys music and performs with several local bands. He also has a strong interest in travel, particularly exploring destinations across Europe.
