SEGRO Park Coventry - Geotechnical Engineering

For their new industrial and logistics space development, SEGRO selected a 450-acre (182-hectare) site on the edge of Coventry Airport, formerly comprised of five licensed and unlicensed landfills, a wastewater treatment plant, and a World War II airbase. SEGRO appointed our team to provide geotechnical design services to prepare the site.

The key challenge was to provide a series of development plateaus, totaling 215 acres (87 hectares) to meet planning requirements, and construct a landscape bund along the site boundaries. This called for the placement of more than 6 million cubic metres (212 million cubic feet) of soil. By reusing the sewage and landfill materials for the bund construction, we reduced material import and offsite disposal. Our sustainably engineered design solution included excavation, sorting, screening, hydraulic binder treatment, centrifugal de-watering, and selected placement within the landscape bund.

Due to the strict environmental criteria the material had to meet, SEGRO’s development transformed this blighted and derelict land into a valuable commercial and community location.
