Thomas Jefferson University - 901 Walnut Street/Edison Building Renovation

Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) has grown, and is still growing, in downtown Philadelphia. For nearly two hundred years, this campus has been teaching eager minds how to become medical professionals. Recently, TJU asked us to design a new 12-story faculty and administration office building.

The building acts as a campus gateway on Walnut Street, a new front door for the Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions, and Population Health. The project also includes a new neurosciences outpatient clinic and consolidates the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology.

Six floors of office and conference space cantilever over the adjacent three-story Clinical Office Building to the west, and eight floors cantilever over an alleyway to the north—connecting the new facility to the adjacent, 85-year-old Edison Building.

Connecting these three buildings also led to significant renovations. The entire project includes the consolidation of 28 academic and university departments and the creation of two floors of teaching space constructed over 17 phases.
