Inclusion, Diversity & Equity

Leading with inclusion brings our work to the next level

At Stantec, we create opportunity by inviting, embracing, and celebrating differences. This goal remains at the heart of our efforts to champion inclusion and diversity throughout our organisation. To achieve that goal, we must continue to build an inclusive workplace that empowers and inspires—but also attracts and nurtures the very best talent from all over the world.

We champion inclusion for two reasons. First, because it’s the right thing to do; everyone deserves the freedom to bring their best selves to work without fear of judgment or discrimination. And second, because an inclusive workplace culture attracts and invites the full spectrum of talent into the organisation. As an iconic firm, we recognise the importance of the distinct experiences and perspectives our people bring to the workplace each day and every day. Inclusion means valuing the distinct talent flourishing within, and that’s an important component to building a more innovative and prosperous Stantec.

We hope to maximise potential, draw on talents, and achieve organisational goals by valuing differences and creating a productive environment. Proactively, we’re working on mitigating pay disparities between genders, supporting grassroots organisations that promote inclusion and diversity, and providing all employees, including leadership and hiring managers, with tools to foster a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable workforce.

We want our community to be inspirational—a place that attracts the best and brightest, where everyone feels free to be true to themselves. Harnessing the power of all the characteristics that make us who we are is vital to our success. With every community, we redefine what's possible, and to genuinely fulfill that promise, we need to be representative of the many communities we serve.

Inclusion, Diversity & Equity (IDE) councils

We have numerous IDE Councils across our global organization. They each have one important job: to fulfill our Inclusion, Diversity & Equity strategy. Through dialogue, research, and action, each council drives the creation of practices, goals, and objectives to help us achieve a workplace culture where every individual feels welcome and valued and achieves their potential.

Driving change

As a global company, we’re involved in external activities that promote diversity, inclusion, and equity in the broader marketplace. We provide scholarships to minority and Indigenous students and actively participate in community partnerships, finding opportunities to engage with and recruit women, members of visible minorities, Indigenous people, people of diverse ethnic origins, and people with disabilities. The impact? An improved diversity pipeline leading to greater depth in our talent pool and in the industry at large. Read More

Employee resource groups

An employee resource group (ERG) focuses on a diversity affinity. Its members work together to support each other and find solutions to achieve a genuinely inclusive workplace and a diverse workforce. ERGs are open to everyone. Our ERGs include Women@Stantec, IndigenousConnections@Stantec, Pride@Stantec, BLK, Military and Veteran Advocates, Asians@Stantec, Persons with Disabilities, Latinos in Stantec, Neurodiversity@Stantec, and REACH@Stantec. Our partnerships

It’s easy to lay claim to being an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace, but how do we know if we’re succeeding, or even leading? To be successful, you need to be accountable. That’s why we seek to partner with organisations that champion change. Whether it be working with the Ākina Foundation or being a founding member of Engineering New Zealand’s Diversity Agenda, by engaging with external groups we can encourage all our employees to be their best self. And that’s the greatest success there is.
We aim to be a place and employer of opportunity for all people

Inclusion & Diversity councils

Members of our Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) Council reflect the diversity we hope to achieve across the company; they come from different cultures, have different outlooks, and possess a wide variety of life experiences. They have one job as Council members: to support our Inclusion & Diversity strategy. Council members drive the creation of practices, goals, and objectives that help us become an organisation where every individual feels welcome and valued. The Councils have an unwavering focus on strengthening our inclusive culture an
