Nelson Petroleum Distributors (NPD) Fuel Facilities

We have supported Nelson Petroleum Distributors (NPD) for many years in the development of new fuel stations across New Zealand. Initially engaged as support on individual sites, our work evolved into a trusted advisory role. NPD has engaged our team from the feasibility stage, assessing site-specific requirements, land acquisition, through to construction.

Our civil team has been responsible for the design for all three waters and pavements design with a focus on stormwater treatment devices, land drainage and disposal to ground, sewer, and water supply. Stormwater design is another core technical focus. Forecourts and fuel handling areas are separated from general yard areas, with fuel zones directed through units designed to manage hydrocarbons through shut off and containment. We support project planners to address consent pathways for construction and operational stormwater systems, reticulation solutions are developed, and each site has erosion and sediment control plans in place.

While many sites are unmanned fuel stations, others include convenience stores that require additional coordination with architectural designers. We have also assisted in the delivery of five operational depots, which use specialist wash-down pads equipped with automatic shut-off devices. The valves are designed for sites that require separation, discharge, and containment of stormwater and trade waste.

Understanding the varying site conditions across the South Island has enabled our consistent delivery of projects. In addition to completing over 40 sites in the South Island, we are now completing over 30 in the North Island.
