Stantec engage future engineers in Redditch

March 05, 2019

Inspiring the next generation of engineers innovators, inventors and problem solvers

Stantec's Process Engineer Harriet Alford and Stantec's Graduate Hydrogeologist Christopher Barry from the UK Redditch office recently visited Ipsley RSA Academy in Redditch to inspire Year 7 students to pursue a career in engineering, promote STEM subjects and give a real insight into the exciting engineering work they are both involved in.

Christopher and Harriet ran a hands on STEM practical session with a randomly selected group of 25 pupils, building prototypes for the fastest zip wire in the world!

There were prizes for the fastest model, and for the model which could traverse the wire in the closest time to 10 seconds. One pupil spoke to Christopher after the session to thank him for opening his eyes to engineering. He explained that before the sessions, he had thought engineers were just people who fixed cars.
