Scorching May heat waves in Europe may be here to stay. How can we prepare?

Northern Europe has seen record temperatures in May. Rebecca Lydon spoke to The Independent to outline climate solutions in urban areas.

May set the multiple temperature records for France and the UK. As large swathes of Europe brace for another long, hot summer, some regions and communities are now at greater risk of overheating. 

So how are countries adapting and how can the built environment support by integrating more thoughtful climate solutions into urban settings? 

Rebecca Lydon, director of sustainability for Stantec in the UK, spoke to The Independent about the issues and opportunities around climate adaptation, and what longer summers mean for Europe.
