08/23/2021 UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec is pleased to announce the appointment of Alistair Webb, director, civil engineering, and Steve Bowen, technical director. Alistair and Steve join the UK Transport team and will work with John Owens, director of roads, to design and deliver major highways projects throughout the UK.

Alistair, who is based in Edinburgh, has over three decades of experience in the transport industry. He joined SWECO as a graduate and progressed to hold roles including commercial director, head of engineering and technical director for Structures. With SWECO, Alistair also led the project to redevelop British Antarctic Surveys bases in Antarctica. Throughout his career he has gathered vast experience on design and build contracts for major contractors including several years working as part of the Highways England (HE) Collaborative Delivery Framework and Delivery Integration Partnership.

Alistair will continue his relationship with HE at Stantec as he assumes the role of framework director for the HE Commercial and Project Management Services (CPMS) Framework where he will work directly with the HE team. Beyond this role, Alistair will be charged with extending Stantec’s design and build offering, working with the wider transport and project management teams across the business.

Commenting on his new role, Alistair said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Stantec at such an exciting time for the business. I’m looking forward to this next step in my career and the opportunity to extend my skillset into new areas. It’s only by stretching ourselves and seeking innovation that we can continue to make a difference for clients and communities. Stantec prioritises innovation and excellence and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve by bringing this approach to major UK projects.”

Steve is a chartered civil engineering professional with over 25 years’ experience in the highways and transport sector. He has a strong background in project and design management at all stages of major highway infrastructure projects in both the UK and Australia. Steve’s experience covers a wide range of highway schemes on both local and nationally strategic networks including renewals and improvement schemes for Government Agencies, local authorities, private developers and contractor-led consortiums. At SWECO he led a number of Smart Motorway projects including the delivery of the M5 during construction and M3 through preliminary and detailed design phase, before handing it over into the Smart Motorway Alliance. Steve has a real passion for Health and Safety and is currently studying for NEBOSH National General Certificate and NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.

Based in the Midlands, Steve will work with the wider transport team and local teams around the country. He will lead on the project management and design of high-profile transport projects, such as HS2 and the M6 toll refurbishment, and work to increase Stantec’s presence in major highways schemes.

Commenting on his appointment, Steve said: “Stantec has a determination to grow and be involved in the projects that are impacting the way infrastructure and communities are designed and developed. Stantec’s transport team is one of the best in the world; it’s great to become part of it and part of the journey towards growth.”

Commenting on the new appointments, John Owens, director, roads, said: “Alistair, Steve and Valeri will be great additions to the team. Between them all, they bring innovation, resourcefulness, and a wealth of experience to Stantec at a time when we are growing our team and skills. I’m delighted to welcome them and look forward to working with them on the major infrastructure projects we will deliver for our clients.”

The Stantec UK Transport team is working on several major projects, including HS2, the A27 and A30, has been appointed to the Highways England Technical Engineering Framework (SPaTS2), and has developed the Scottish National Transport Strategy with Transport Scotland.  Stantec also provides design support to VolkerFitzpatrick on the Highways England Regional Delivery Partnership framework and is currently engaged on the M3 junction 9 scheme.
