Stantec will be assisting Jackson Civil Engineering in its work for Anglian Water

12/15/2021 UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec has been appointed by framework partner Jackson Civil Engineering to help deliver a programme of river restoration for Anglian Water at selected locations across the east of England.

Jackson Civil Engineering is one of three environmental businesses who will deliver the work alongside the wider, established Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) partnerships for Anglian Water. Anglian Water plans to invest over £7million across 16 separate schemes all designed to restore unique river habitats, improving ecology and biodiversity. Planning for the work by Jackson Civil Engineering took place this year, with boots set to be on the ground from 2022.

Jackson has been appointed on Lot 1 where, with Stantec’s assistance, it will be designing and restoring river habitat and enhancement schemes on the south-western chalk streams and tributaries of the River Lark on the Suffolk-Cambridgeshire border. To support the programme of works, Stantec will deliver expertise in river engineering, geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, ecology and landscape architecture.

Martin Bowes, Water Resources Environment Manager at Anglian Water said: “The aim of these schemes is to reinstate the natural processes in the rivers that have been lost through historical river management and modification. The work will reinstall meanders, riffles, and gravel into the riverbeds, creating variation in river flows and protection against erosion.

“By changing the river's shape – narrowing or shallowing some parts, we can increase habitat diversity and allow the river to function more how nature intended it to, and as importantly, without increasing the risk of flooding to local amenities, businesses or homes.”

Richard Barnes, Framework Director, at Jackson Civil Engineering said, “We are delighted that our Environment Agency experience, and established partnership with Stantec, was recognised as bringing strength and knowledge to the framework. It is a great opportunity for the team to deliver sensitive and natural improvements to the water environment in the local Suffolk communities in which we live and work.”

Simon Darch, Regional (UK) Sector Lead for Non-Regulated Water, at Stantec said: “This is another great opportunity to demonstrate how our integrated delivery partnership with Jackson can bring real benefits and social value to our clients and communities. We’ll bring our collective expertise of delivering natural solutions across both the Water and Water Level Management Sectors.”
