Stantec celebrates double win at the 2021 Water Industry Awards

Stantec wins Health and Safety Initiative of the Year and Women in Water Initiative of the Year

06/01/2021 UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec has won two awards at the 2021 Water & Wastewater Treatment Water Industry Awards, which celebrate and reward outstanding achievement and innovation in the UK water industry.

The Health and Safety Initiative of the Year Award was given to Fire Flow, a digital tool developed with Thames Water and the London Fire Brigade.

The system predicts water flow capacity for firefighting and identifies where  mitigation measures may be required or where more hydrants need to be installed. Fire Flow has quantified likely fire flows at each hydrant, so that London Fire Brigade firefighters can understand the performance of the hydrant network across the city.

Commenting on the Fire Flow system, the judges said: “The level of collaboration between the principal parties to deliver the Fire Flow System was impressive, and there is a huge potential for this system to be adopted across the UK water sector.”

The Women in Water Initiative of the Year Award was given to the PMO Risk Transformation Programme, which is a collaboration between Southern Water and Stantec. The award recognises projects across the water sector that support women, focus on and harness their strengths and encourage more women to work in the sector.

The bespoke risk system, stakeholder engagement and tailored risk training programme advises on risk management expertise, practical application ad processes. Since its launch, it has had an impact on how risk is managed at Southern Water. The programme highlights that transformational change can be carried out, and a team of women can be seen as industry best practice in risk management within a traditionally male-oriented sector.

Commenting on the PMO Risk Transformation Programme, the judges said: “The PMO Risk Transformation Programme provides a great example of collaboration and inspirational leadership in difficult times. It was great to see that the new innovative software was built for much less than the average price of app development, and that the team was awarded a prestigious CIR Risk Management Award for transformational change.”

Jamie Woods, Regional Director, Water at Stantec, said: “It’s fantastic that we have won these two awards. Collaboration is key to such initiatives’ success and we look forward to delivering future programmes with our clients using such tools and approaches.”

This is the seventh time that Stantec has been recognised at the WWT Water Industry Awards. The full list of winners and more information can be found at: waterindustryawards.co.uk
