Leading global design and engineering firm Stantec has expanded its power delivery capabilities with the acquisition of Teshmont Consultants LP.

The 60-person strong firm, based in Canada, has been a world leader in the study and development of HVDC transmission systems for clients around the world for 55 years.

Teshmont’s global reputation as leaders in advanced power transmission engineering brings technical expertise and brand recognition to Stantec’s existing Power practice.  Teshmont’s contribution on HVDC transmission projects has included everything from planning and design studies, preparation of specifications and design reviews to inspections, commissioning and project management and implementation services. Teshmont has also performed a wide range of studies on many of the world’s major transmission networks.

Matthew Raybould, Technical Director, at Stantec said: “We are pleased to announce our latest acquisition which will help strengthen and expand our services to energy clients in the UK and beyond. Teshmont’s strength, knowledge, and relationships around the world in HVDC and EHVAC transmission will enhance our global energy services practice. Together we can better support our clients and build on our reputation as leaders in power delivery engineering providing innovative and sustainable solutions to clients.”

Teshmont have worked on some of the world's largest power transmission systems and have provided services for projects representing over 90,000 MW of the world's planned or installed capacity of HVDC.

Teshmont’s award-winning experience across the globe strengthens Stantec’s ability to provide clients with enhanced services, and provide communities with safe, reliable, and renewable energy options.

  • The Nemo Link interconnector is a joint venture between National Grid Interconnector Holdings Limited, a subsidiary company of the UK’s National Grid Plc, and the Belgian Elia group.  The interconnector electrically connects Belgium and the UK providing both countries with improved grid reliability and access to sustainable generation.  Nemo Link consists of subsea and underground cables connected to a converter station and an electricity substation in each country, which allows electricity to flow in either direction between the two countries. Our team provided Owner's Engineer services, developing the technical specifications and assisting with bid evaluation, for the Nemo Link Interconnector project, a 1000 MW, 400 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Voltage Source Converter (VSC) 140 km submarine link between the UK and Belgium.
  • The EuroAsia Interconnector will ultimately link the electrical systems of Israel, Cyprus, Crete, and Greece using over 3000 km of submarine cables with High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Voltage Sourced Converter (VSC) converter stations at each connection point. The project will have an initial capacity of 1000 MW, with an ultimate capacity of 2000 MW. Teshmont has been retained to provide specialist HVDC converter station and HVDC cables engineering services. The EuroAsia Interconnector is a European Union Project of Common Interest (PCI). PCIs are key infrastructure projects that link the energy systems of EU countries and are intended to help the EU achieve its energy policy and climate objectives.
  • Manitoba Hydro retained Teshmont and Stantec as Owner’s Engineer to provide specialist services for the Nelson River Transmission System Bipole III HVDC project. During construction, Bipole III was one of the largest and most technologically complex energy projects in North America. Teshmont and Stantec were awarded an Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) Manitoba Award of Excellence in the Energy Resource Development category for our work on this project, in addition to being selected for the Keystone Award—the project deemed best overall.
