Professor Sean Comber joins Stantec as Technical Specialist

Professor Sean Comber has been appointed by Stantec and will be working across Catchment Science and Nature Based Solutions

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering has appointed Professor Sean Comber as Technical Specialist for catchment science and nature-based solutions, further strengthening the firms’ consultancy expertise across the UK and Ireland. Based in Stantec’s recently opened Exeter office, Sean will have a specific focus on the sources, fate, regulation and compliance issues associated with phosphate, as well as metals and emerging chemicals such as perfluorinated substances and pharmaceuticals. 

Professor Comber will be responsible for supporting proposals and projects relating to water industry investigations, planning and delivery as well as wider Stantec business development associated with chemicals entering the environment.

Sean has more than 30 years of experience within environmental science encompassing field, laboratory and desk-based research within the academic and consultancy sectors. His previous roles include principal consultant at Atkins managing an environmental chemistry team of 25 people while at WRc Group. He joins Stantec from the University of Plymouth, where over the last 10 years he has led numerous research projects collaborating with local, national and international organisations within the field of environmental chemistry, generating over 100 peer reviewed journal articles.

On his appointment, Sean commented: “It is great to be part of a forward-thinking and ambitious company. Locally, I am looking forward to expanding the team in Exeter and being involved in the many improvement projects proposed for the area, such as delivering water quality improvements throughout the region.”

Sean joins a team that has already implemented significant projects across the UK and Ireland. This includes Stantec’s ongoing work with water bodies on major water and wastewater treatment projects, sewer upgrades and the development and design of blue green infrastructure.
