Stantec appoints Russell Wheeler as Director of Civil Engineering

Russell Wheeler joins Stantec as Director of Civil Engineering. Based in Birmingham, with a specific focus on community development and transport infrastructure, he will be responsible for growing the regional team to develop new relationships, opportunities and offerings for clients and communities.

Russell is a chartered engineer with over 20 years’ experience primarily within the transport sector, focusing on strategic highways, local transport and contractor-led schemes. His previous roles included Asset Systems Lead (Highways and Drainage) for the Smart Motorways Alliance, as well as project director for several local authority design and build schemes. 

Alongside his project work, he also sits on Swansea University’s Industrial Advisory Board, is a member of British Standards committee 509/6, and is a graduate of cohort 11 of the Roads Academy Senior Leaders Programme.

On his appointment, Russell commented: “It is great to be part of a forward-thinking and ambitious company whose goal is to grow within the transport and community development sectors. I am especially excited to work on local projects that bring tangible benefits to communities. In Birmingham, I am looking forward to expanding the local team and being involved in the many improvement projects that are proposed for the region, such as the public realm improvements to Smallbrook Queensway.”
